Nestled in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, this boutique hotel showcases a unique blend of industrial and vintage design elements. The interior design pays homage to the building’s history as a seminary, featuring exposed brick walls, reclaimed wood accents, and mid-century modern furniture.

Initial Conceptualization and Planning

The project began with the conceptualization of transforming the historic seminary into a boutique hotel. This phase involved feasibility studies, market analysis, and discussions with stakeholders to define the vision and goals. The architectural and interior design teams were tasked with preserving the building's original architectural features while incorporating modern amenities and design elements.

Construction and Renovation

Following the finalization of planning and design and obtaining necessary permits, the construction and renovation phase commenced. This involved structural upgrades, interior remodeling, and the installation of new systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC). Exterior improvements were also made. The selection and procurement of furniture, fixtures, and equipment were crucial to achieving the desired ambiance. Furnishings, lighting, artwork, linens, and other decorative elements were chosen to complement the hotel's design aesthetic. Concurrently, efforts to develop the hotel's brand identity and marketing strategy were underway, including crafting a distinctive brand image, creating marketing materials, and launching a promotional campaign to generate awareness and attract guests. Following the grand opening, the focus shifted to ongoing operations, including guest services, marketing, maintenance, and continuous efforts to enhance the guest experience and drive business success.

Modern Urban Apartment Design in a Bustling City

This project involves the interior design of a modern urban apartment situated in a newly constructed high-rise building in a vibrant neighborhood. The primary objective is to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable living space that reflects the contemporary lifestyle of the occupants. The design concept revolves around modern minimalism with a touch of urban sophistication.

Modern Minimalism

The design concept emphasizes modern minimalism, characterized by clean lines, neutral color palettes, and a focus on functionality. This style creates a calm, uncluttered environment that maximizes space and light, making the apartment feel open and airy.

Urban Sophistication

To add sophistication, the design incorporates urban elements such as industrial lighting, exposed concrete finishes, and contemporary artwork. This blend of minimalism and urban chic creates a stylish, comfortable living environment that is both trendy and timeless.

Detailed Area Descriptions

Living Room:

  • Layout and Furniture: The living room serves as the heart of the apartment, designed for relaxation and socializing. It features an L-shaped sectional sofa upholstered in soft, neutral fabric, positioned to take advantage of city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. A sleek, low-profile coffee table in dark wood anchors the seating area, while modern armchairs add extra seating.

  • Color Scheme: The color scheme mixes neutral tones with accents of deep blue and charcoal gray. Light, warm gray walls create a serene backdrop, while the furniture and accessories add depth and interest.

  • Decor and Accessories: A large, abstract painting in shades of blue and gray is the focal point above the sofa. The room is accessorized with textured throw pillows, a cozy wool rug, and sleek metal and glass side tables. An industrial-design floor lamp provides ambient lighting, complemented by recessed ceiling lights.

Kitchen:

  • Layout and Appliances: The U-shaped kitchen layout offers ample counter space and storage. Custom-built matte white cabinetry with minimalist handles maintains a clean, streamlined look. High-end stainless steel appliances are seamlessly integrated.

  • Countertops and Backsplash: Light gray quartz countertops provide a durable, elegant surface. The glossy white subway tile backsplash adds classic sophistication.

  • Lighting and Fixtures: Under-cabinet LED lighting ensures a well-lit workspace. Black metal pendant lights above the breakfast bar add an industrial touch. A sleek single-handle faucet and deep, undermount stainless steel sink complete the modern aesthetic.

Dining Area:

  • Layout and Furniture: Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining area features a reclaimed wood rectangular table, adding warmth and character. Six dining chairs with dark gray upholstered seats provide comfortable seating. The table’s position allows for easy movement while maintaining a connection to the kitchen.

  • Color Scheme and Decor: The dining area continues the apartment’s neutral palette, emphasizing natural materials. A statement pendant light with an open geometric design hangs above the table. Black-and-white urban landscape photographs adorn the walls, adding a personal, artistic touch.

Master Bedroom:

  • Layout and Furniture: Designed as a tranquil retreat, the master bedroom features a king-sized bed with a low-profile, upholstered headboard in soft gray fabric. Matching minimalist nightstands with modern table lamps flank the bed. A large dresser with ample storage and a full-length mirror complete the furnishings.

  • Color Scheme and Textiles: Soft grays, whites, and touches of blue define the color scheme. Light gray walls and high-quality white and blue linens dress the bed. A plush, subtly patterned area rug adds warmth, while deep blue blackout curtains ensure restful sleep.

  • Decor and Accessories: Abstract prints in calming colors hang above the bed. The room is accessorized with decorative pillows, a cozy throw blanket, and select pieces of personal decor, such as a stylish jewelry box and a small indoor plant.

By integrating modern minimalism with urban sophistication, this interior design project transforms the apartment into a functional, stylish, and comfortable living space, perfectly suited for contemporary urban living.
